Hey backers…only 10 days to go until STCC!!!
The venue is all booked, our guests have their train tickets arranged, our comics are in print, and our freebies are being delivered…Sonic the Comic Con is just about ready to go!
With the convention day drawing ever closer, we’d thought we’d give you one last update with all the details you need.
How to get there:
From York station:
There are several ways down York’s many streets to the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall. The quickest route to the venue is to exit the station onto Station road, and follow it across the river Ouse. Turn right onto Lendal and walk past Betty’s Café, down Davygate and Parliament Street. Turn left onto Pavement and then the first right onto Fossgate – you should see the archway to the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall on the right hand side of the street. The walk is approximately 800 meters, and should only take you about 15 minutes.
If you don’t want to walk, it takes about 5-10 minutes on the bus from the station via the number 44 service to York Merchantgate / Piccadilly. This bus runs every 15 minutes between 10am and 6pm, and every 30 minutes at other times.
There are many places to park in York if you plan on traveling by car, however, expect to pay around £2.30 an hour in some places. We suggest if you are planning to spend all day at the event to park at 36 Piccadilly, a few minutes’ walk from the venue, and will cost you £7 to park for the day.
Sonic the Comic Con will open doors at 10am and conclude at 5pm. If you arrive before the event begins, please queue outside the Fossgate entrance.
There will be several events including Q&A sessions and workshops which will take place after lunchtime, so if you can’t make it to the event for doors opening, don’t worry. Our guests will be signing and chatting throughout the day too, so there’s no rush if you want to meet a specific guest.
We will be sending attendees their invitations soon! These are purely a formality though - your names are all on our event guest list, so you should have no problem getting in at registration! If you can’t print your invite off - don’t worry!
The programme for the day will include Q&A sessions with our guests, a quiz and other on-stage events, workshops in the afternoon and a number of exhibitors and sellers downstairs. There will be plenty of room in the Undercroft for attendees to sketch, chat, have a quick sit down or read comics!
Food and drink cannot be consumed in the venue, with the exception of bottled water. However there are many restaurants, sandwich shops and convenience stores close by to cater for anything you want, so if you only want to pop out for a bite to eat, you don’t have to go far.
Signings and Sketches:
All of our artists and writers will be available for meet and greet throughout the day, and will be happy to sign any items for you!
If you’d love to get a personalised sketch from an STC legend, Nigel Dobbyn, Carl Flint, Jon Haward, Kev Hopgood and Ferran Rodriguez will also be taking sketch commissions during the day for a small cost!
Questions for the special guests:
Have any burning questions for our guests you’d like fielded at the Q&A panels? You can submit any of your questions to Megadroid@stconline.co.uk!
If you are planning on staying in York on Saturday, 25th of October the night before the event, we will be having a social event to get attendees in the mood for STCC! Check out the Facebook page for more details on meeting and activities soon.
T-Shirt and wristband colours for LIGHTFOOT backers:
As you may have seen, we now have the option of two shirt colours (blue or yellow) and three wrist band colours (blue, yellow, pink). If you are attending STCC, we will hopefully be able to provide you colours of your choice on the day. If you backed through the “LIGHTFOOT” perk, you will be sent a blue shirt and random wristband by default; if however you would prefer a yellow shirt or a specific colour wristband, please drop us a line here and we will do our best to get you your first choice!
If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask them in the comments and we will try to answer them, and keep up to date on the STCC Facebook page.
See you on the 26th! :)
